Doubtless you are rushing to see the new documentary, “Inequality for All.” It is Clinton-era Secretary of Labor Robert Reich’s effort to do for income inequality what Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” did for climate change.
But before we all jump on the income inequality bandwagon, and start taxing and regulating to redistribute the wealth, consider some hard questions:
- Is it government’s job to equalize people’s personal income?
- Since the main source of income inequality is in stocks and capital gains of growth companies, do we want to discourage and send them to other countries? And:
- Since everyone’s income and the overall economy have grown, is it truly a crisis?
Immigrants still come to this country for freedom and opportunity, not regulation and redistribution. I think the immigrants have it right and the intellectuals have it wrong.
