Whither Marriage? (Townhall.com) August 16, 2010

Much has been said about one federal judge in San Francisco turning back
the millions in California who voted to protect one-man-and-one-woman marriage—and it IS disturbing that courts have become engines of social change, taking social questions such as marriage away from the states and the people.
But looking more deeply at the judge’s decision, he said there is no “rational basis” for a state to limit marriage to a man and a woman. Apparently religious values, tradition and culture, and the vote of the people are not a rational basis. Declining populations and resulting economic and social problems in Europe aren’t either? Political leaders from Barack Obama on down who say they support traditional marriage must not be rational.
Now is the time for a rational case for traditional marriage to be made as this winds through the courts.
