2009: The Year of Taxes (Townhall.com) December 29, 2009

It’s not April 15, but it’s already tax season. In New York, Governor David
Paterson has released his first state budget and it’s full of higher taxes on everything from hospitals to insurance policies, plus creative new ones, like a $400 million obesity tax on sodas.
Meanwhile in California, Democratic legislators are attempting an end-run around the 2/3rds voting requirement for tax increases with a name-change, imposing instead billions of dollars of increased fees. A tax by any other name was sweet enough for Republican Governor Schwarzenegger who apparently supports this sleight of hand.
And we haven’t even gotten to a new administration in Washington which long ago promised to use taxes to further redistribute wealth.
Welcome 2009, the year of taxes.
