My new favorite bumper sticker reads: “How’s that hopey-changey thing working out for you?” It looks a lot like taxy-spendy to me.
Take “cars for clunkers” that Washington proclaimed a huge success. Let’s see, we did $1 billion of deficit spending in a matter of days. According to the CEO of Edmunds.com, about 5 percent of used car sales in July can be attributed to this program and, people who would have traded in later may simply have accelerated their plans.
And when you could trade your 14 mpg clunker for an 18 mpg SUV, it’s hard to see how we’re doing much to save the environment.
The fact that our leaders in Washington celebrate $1 billion in deficit spending on used cars as a huge policy success tells me all I need to know.
