While everyone debates same-sex marriage, we should also remember how we got here. As in Massachusetts a few years ago, it was not the people or the elected branches of government that redefined marriage for our society, but four lawyers in black robes.
Unfortunately the people are left with little recourse against the courts. One is to amend the Constitution, as the people of California may do this fall. The other is to vote against continuing Chief Justice Ronald George when he’s up for confirmation in 2010.
